Abstract

The origin of language in human species has been a topic of expert debate for several centuries. However, there is no general agreement on the exact time and age of human language. One of the problems that make this topic so difficult to study is the lack of direct evidence. Consequently, scholars wishing to study the origins of language must draw conclusions based on other evidence such as fossil records or archaeological evidence, contemporary linguistic diversity, language acquisition studies, and comparisons between human languages and animal communication systems, especially communications systems other primates. In general there is an agreement that the origin of human language is closely related to the origins of modern human behavior, but there are differences of opinion about the implications and the severity of their relationships.
